3rd Annual Creative Connections and Mpls/St Paul Chapter Annual Meeting

Come join us for our Annual Meeting/Creative Connections on October 15th.  Now that we have had a chance to catch a breath after our 35th Anniversary we are preparing for the 3rd Annual Creative Connections mini expo at the October 15th Annual Meeting.  This year’s workshop options will be offered in the morning only and are provided by our talented members.  All workshops, except Zentagle and the Painted Scarf, require a sewing machine and a standard sewing kit (small sharp scissors, pins, seam ripper, measuring tape). Some classes will have prepared kits. Kit fees will be payable to the instructor.

The morning sessions will be as follows – choose one of the 2 hour sessions or two of the one hour sessions:

One hour sessions:

9:30-10:30

A01: Zentangle - taught by President Lori Clark.  Relax and doodle with this easy to learn and fun way to create beautiful images through repetitive patterns. Lighthearted and uplifting while providing relaxation and focus. See what you may create.  No sewing machine required.

A02: Tidbit Special Occasion Cards - Tired of sending the same old cards for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries? Want to create original one of a kind cards? You can do so from all those fabric tidbits and decorative stitches, you can’t seem to find a use for. Member Shelly Hildreth will show you her simple method for making beautiful one of a kind cards.  Then let your creativity create cards that will be cherished forever. You may have seen these cards on display at the fashion show. Supplies: Sewing machine w/decorative stitches, bobbin (use up all those with a little bit of thread on them), thread assorted colors embroidery thread best, 80 needle, open toe or decorative stitch foot, standard sewing kit, and if you want bring fabric scraps/tidbits as small as 3/8” wide. Kits available with fabric and all the supplies need for this project except above listed.  Kit fee $4.00.

10:45-11:45

A03:  10 Minute Runner  - taught by CAB member Michelle Proulx.  Need a fall themed runner for one of your tables?  In this class learn how to create a runner from just two pieces of coordinating fabric and 10 minutes of sewing.  Supplies: Bring sewing machine and standard sewing kit.    Kit Fee $4.00.

Two hour sessions 9:30-11:45

B01: Applique - taught by member Daphyn Nordeen. Applique adds such a personal touch to a garment or Home Dec. item.  And with the right notions and an understanding of the process, it is easy and so nice looking.  You will learn 4 different types of applique, Satin stitch, Buttonhole Heirloom stitch, Raw edge and Reverse Applique. Supplies: Bring sewing machine w/ new size 80 needle; decorative stitchfFoot/open toe applique foot/ B foot for Viking sewing machines; bobbin with white thread or white prewound bobbin; Red embroidery thread and clear thread [Sulky or Gutermann is the best, NOT Coats & Clark]; and standard sewing kit.  A kit will be available for $10.00. 

B02: Painted Silk Scarf – taught by CAB member Brenda Oseland. Learn how to paint on silk and leave with a new one of a kind scarf and the supplies for another to create at home. No need to be “artistic”, every piece is different and gorgeous!  Bring a smock to protect your clothing. Limit of 6 students. Kit fee $ 15.00.  This class is full.  Please choose alternate classes

B03: Project Bag - taught by CAB members Terry Melcher and Kathi Simonson. The “Project Bag” is a very versatile fabric drawstring bag, and a great stash-buster project too!  It can hold knitting/craft projects to keep pieces organized, or be used as reusable gift bags.  Various sizes can be made depending on your need, they require very little fabric, and assemble quickly, so keep several on hand for your holiday gift-giving. Supplies: Bring sewing machine, standard sewing kit and thread.  Kit Fee $ 5.00                                                                                                                                                                                     
B04: Travel Tool Pouch - taught by past President Mary Anderson.  Mary will provide batting and Velcro, you just need to bring sewing machine, standard sewing kit, fabric - 2 or 3 coordinating fat quarters or 1/2 yard of 45" cotton and coordinating thread. Kit Fee $2.00.

9:30-11:45          Open Sewing - Community Sewing Projects in North Hall. None of the classes strike your fancy? If so, come do some community sewing projects at ASG machines set up in the North Hall (or bring your own machine). Spend some sewing time with other ASG members and guests sewing up projects such as cancer caps, anti ouch pouches or community sewing projects you bring in.
