Many of our members are extremely accomplished sewists.  Many of us know people in our lives who are not. They WANT TO LEARN!  This class would be an IDEAL class to purchase for a neighbor, child, niece, nephew or grandchild. I cannot think of a better graduation gift for either a young man or woman than a basic sewing machine (maybe a good used one) and this class.

If you have been wanting into the driver's seat and master sewing, this is the class for you.  The American Sewing Guild has a mission statement.: Advancing Sewing as an Art and Life Skill.  This is where you begin.

Have you received a new sewing machine for Christmas, birthday, or “just because”? Have you opened the box yet? Do you have a machine that you only straight stitch on? You may be getting to know your machine for the first time or you’re starting to take your trusty machine for granted.

Here is your chance to take a closer look at everything your sewing gizmo can do.

If you know Daphyn, you know that “hand” is a four-letter word in her sewing vocabulary.  A sewing machine can do so much of what we think of as only done by hand [sewing one buttons or hamming a skirt or pants]. Adding a little embellishment can upgrade the look of anything fabric [blouse/ pillowcase/etc.].

Most of the problems we have with our sewing machine are operator error. We will talk about needle, thread, bobbins, foot pressure adjustment, the correct tensions for different fabrics and techniques, the different feet that came with the sewing machine and what techniques they are for. You will learn other purposes for utility stitches. Any guesses as to what that might be?

Sewing machine stitches are divided into three categories:          Picture2.jpg

1-Utility stitches 2- Decorative Stitches and 3-Satin Stitches.

Knowing how to adjust your sewing machine for each of the three categories will make a world of difference in the outcome of the project. You will make a sample booklet of the different stitches in the three categories.  Upon registration a class supply list will be e-mailed to you.

PLEASE BRING A BAG LUNCH.  Beverages and snacks will be provided.
