Seamlines from the President
Just when we thought that our world was returning to normal, another pandemic surge! I have not been anywhere since April 2020. That’s just wrong. Going to the cabin with the primitive bathroom and no running water does not count as a vacation. It’s been a real travel drought; even my sister called and asked if there was a sewing expo that we could attend. My sister sews but she doesn’t even have a fabric collection. She decides that she wants to make something, goes out and finds the perfect fabric. I envy her self-control. I have made my room reservation for next year’s conference in San Antonio, and I’m seriously consider the Puyallup expo in the Winter of 2022. Maybe I’ll take my sister.
Enough about me, “How you doing?” We had a nice size group for the annual meeting and a huge amount of fabrics, notions and books for the swap. I exercised self-control and only picked up a few pieces of fabric and two DVDs. Our Neighborhood Group (Woodbury) is meeting in person again and our community service project will be making hats for chemo patients. If you have a pattern for a hat or cap or a website with a free pattern, please contact our Neighborhood Group Leader Pam Zimmerman. Thanks. Nancy’s Notions used to have one on their “charity” sewing site, but they were purchased by Missouri Star Quilt, still in the transition process.
It’s time for me to say goodbye; three years as president of the Chapter is enough and it’s time for some fresh faces and fresh and unique ideas. You have a new President, Rosemary Mengelkoch, a new First Vice-President, Bonita Johnson, her first time on the Chapter Advisory Board, and a new Treasurer, Donella Petro. The Second Vice President, Shelly Hildreth, is unchanged and the Secretary, Darlene Hueser, remain the same.
Remember, the Chapter Advisory Board is the governing body for the Minneapolis/St Paul Chapter (CAB) and would not exist without wonderful members like you. Please consider sharing your thoughts and ideas for venues and programs. The CAB needs your ideas and suggestions for programs, both national speakers/teachers and local speakers/teachers (including you and all members of your Neighborhood Group.
Last, but not least, thanks to all of the members who have encouraged me throughout this journey. Believe it or not, it requires a tremendous amount deal of work and planning, as well as large volunteer pool to keep a chapter going. The Minneapolis/St Paul Chapter has been fortunate throughout the past 42 years to have kind and generous members and great leaders. Please think about what you can do (up front or behind the scenes) to keep this great chapter on track.
Thanks again,
Lolita
