Seamlines from The President

Hello and Happy Spring!

As many of you know, I have been traveling around the Chapter visiting the neighborhood groups. I have enjoyed meeting all of you on a more intimate level. You are most welcoming. I find we are a very diverse group when it comes towhat we sew. Some only sew clothing, some are into upcycling and repurposingitems, others quilt. Many of you are like me, we sew the projects that come across our machines whatever they may be. I find we have common threads. Weenjoy the craft and we love to share. We share knowledge, tips, tricks, plans, defeats, and triumphs. I have enjoyed hearing about and sharing your sewingjourneys and I intend to learn more. See you soon!

We talked last time about communication. National sends emails containing blog stories, general information for virtual neighborhood groups, and most recentlythe information you need to schedule time at our national convention. If you are not getting these emails, please ensure your information is up to date. We mustbe proactive here. Go to your membership information at asg.org and review your account information. Is the address, phone number and email listing up to date?Sometimes things are overlooked as we set our accounts to auto renew. Be proactive in your home office as well. Are emails going to an outdated account, junk, or spam folders? Lastly, take some time to review the national website ( www.asg.org ) . There have been recent updates as they post information regarding the June National Convention in San Diego. Also, go to past articles. There is a great one from 2017 that discusses pattern drafting, a subject that many of you have requested a workshop for.

I write this during Arbor Day and Earth Day weekend. Farmer Nephew has jeans that need patching. Those beyond repair become the reclaimed fabric needed to patch the holes in the knees. Hubby has a couple of sweatshirts with cuffs that need replacing. The list goes on. I do this to help keep the textiles out of thelandfill for as long as I can. It isn’t the most fun I have had in my sewing journey but it is the most challenging. And it saves me money-I can put off buying just 1more item. As sewists we have been ‘saving the planet’ for as long as we have been sewing. Necessity was the mother of resizing, restyling and repurposinggarments back in the day. Leftover pieces of fabric were turned into beautiful quilts. How many of you have Grans’ quilt made from pieces of your schooldresses, or dad’s shirts that we treasure to this day? Nothing went to waste. Please join me as we continue to Save The Planet one piece of fabric at a time.

Remember, continue to visit our website for event information, neighborhood group meetings, etc. What we thought would be a quiet summer is fast becominga busy summer. There are several events in the planning stages. We will keep you updated through Groupworks and our website.

HAPPY SEWING!
