Seamlines from the President-Nov 2022
Winter is coming on us. Many of us leave this cold tundra for at least part of winter and many hunker down and get a lot of sewing done. Whichever works for you, I hope you find joy in this upcoming season.
We have had a very active few months with ASG. The Community Service Days were well received and much was accomplished.Special thanks to those who helped host a location.
Neighborhood groups are active and continue to grow.Since January we have averaged 3-5 new members joining our group per month. A special welcome to all the new members and we hope you have found a home that meets your needs in your area. If not feel free to reach out for help.
23 members attended the Anoka Lyric Theatre play “Real Women Have Curves”. Hosted by the Anoka Neighborhood Group. Such a special day to be around fellow sewers.
A trip to the Minnesota Institute of Art was taken to see the amazing fabrics and clothing from earlier days in Japan.
A virtual class for making a tote was offered free of charge to our members. I learned a few new ideas for using stabilizers during this training. Even when you are an experienced sewer there are always new tips to learn.
Neighborhood group leaders met for lunch and brought up to date on future plans for the guild. A small amount of cash was distributed to each for the groups to spend on special activities of their choosing.
Planning has already begun for the 2023 Style Show Luncheon - “Up North”. Volunteers are needed to make this event as great as it has been in the past. If you can help please contact Shelly Hildreth at wfordfilmdude@aol.com.
Pat Swanson has done an amazing job of offering basic sewing classes through the Hopkins Community Ed.So good in fact, she has a waiting list for people wanting to take the class. She really needs help with a second spotter and the dates vary so check to see if you can attend one or two to help out.We are now offering a $10. Gas card to those who help.
We continue to work on new event offerings we hope to get off the ground. A 3-4 day sewing retreat in the metro area. Most likely this would be held at a hotel where members can choose to stay overnight or go home each night. We also hope to offer classes on pattern fitting and choosing the right colors for your fabrics to maximize the success of your projects.
We hope we can continue to offer programs that you find worthwhile. If you have any ideas please let us know. The Chapter Advisory Board really wants to hear more from our members.
