Your Sewing Experience Benefits Youth
Because January in Minnesota often has icy, slippery roads, we didn’t schedule classes but will resume teaching Basic Sewing in February, March and April at the facility in Hopkins. It is on Highway 7 just west of Highway 169.
These are for students who have little or no experience with sewing at a machine, so the classes are easy to teach. We start with learning the parts of the machines, then practice following lines with an unthreaded needle. The first session proceeds to teach how to create a cute pillowcase. The second session involves learning how to cut out a pattern, do adjustments to the pattern, and lay it out on fabric. They complete a pair of pajama pants and feel confident to go on to other projects.
March sessions for Adults and Youth are on March 11 and 18, same scheduled times.
April sessions for Adults and Youth are on April 22 and 29, same scheduled times.
Pat needs an assistant for each of the classes. The school requires a background check for anyone who works with the youth, but the school pays for that background check. Several of our Guild members have volunteered in the past, and said they really enjoyed the experience. If you have some free time to help, please contact Pat Swanson at 612-214-3638 or email to youth@asg-mpls-stpaul.org.

Youth/Adult Sewing Classes through Hopkins Community Ed
Pat Swanson has scheduled winter and spring classes with the Hopkins Community Ed (Eisenhower School) on Highway 7, just off Highway 169. We are adding sessions for beginning adults.
We are asking for volunteers to help during each of the class times. You don’t have to volunteer at all of the classes. A small cash reimbursement will be given. The projects are very simple. Volunteers will not need to provide any fabric or sewing notions. Volunteers with youth will need to have a no-cost background check done by the school before being in the class.
Please contact Pat Swanson at 612-214-3638 to volunteer, or just to ask for information.
