Join a Neighborhood Group
ASG Members are welcome to visit any neighborhood group as often as you like and at any time during the year. We encourage new members to visit several different groups to decide which group might suit their interests and personality the best. Want to check it out before you become a member? That’s great too! According to ASG Rules, non-members may visit two Neighborhood Group meetings before joining the ASG.

In May members of the Anoka-Ramsey and Monticello Neighborhood Groups took a field trip to the Carver County Historical Society in Waconia to the the exhibit Material Pulses: Seven Viewpoints. Seven fiber artists presented seventeen contemporary quilts. Techniques used were shibori, woodcut printing, and various types of stitching. Learn more about the museum here.

This group is always busy! April had a focus on favorite sewing techniques: adjusting jeans with elastic, the zipper foot-it’s NOT just for installing zippers and a variety ways of hemming knits.
May was a demo of two different craft cutters. Shelly shared her Artistic Cutter and Pam her
Scan-N-Cut.
June was a field trip to Faribault for the Faribault Woolen Mills Tent Sale, lunch in Albert Lea
then onward to A-Best Sewing, Granny’s Legacy Patterns and a final stop at the Calico Hutch. What A DAY!
The Show and Tell projects always feature creativity on steroids!

A planning meeting via Zoom happened in May.
June was a “messy meeting” meaning hands on discharge dyeing. Cotton, silk and linen worked well with methods of stenciling, spraying and tie dyeing with bleach.
July brought a group on a field trip to Ax Man and Harbor Freight in search of new sewing tools. Cutting mats, magnetic bowls, brush sets, tweezers and pressing sheets found their way into shopping carts.

April: Victoria showed us how she turned fashion scarfs or 21 inch long strips of fancy fabric into a scarf necklace. The magic is using the magnetic scarf rings end caps. Show and share always brings some fun makes.

Some of us stayed at the hotel while others just popped in for the day. It was a fun, productive 3 days!
